Bob has started getting more incident reports and bad evaluations because of the changes in his approach concerning training. Previously, he communicated to the employees of the importance of the training because of his deep involvement in it. His direct participation was a motivator to the workers. They took the training seriously, as evidenced by the low incidents recorded. However, this has changed since he started using video tapes and lectures. The training sessions have become impersonal and the workers no longer feel the connection they had with Bob. The bad evaluations are most likely the result of the lack of connection between Bob and the workers. When Bob uses recorded information, the workers do not get a chance to ask for clarifications on certain issues. In addition, the bad evaluations could also be because of the short time that Bob is dedicating to the training sessions. The workers might feel that training is no longer important or that it is not necessary.
The lack of preparation time means that Bob does not get to cover all the things he had intended to or that he passes through the most important or complex items on the agenda. The reduction in the number of classes has had a negative effect on the workers. Employers understand the nature of their business operations better than the regulators do. They are able to incorporate more requirements and recommendations other than what OSHA recommends. This enhances safety at the workplace. Waiting until OSHA issues regulatory warnings and recommendations denies companies the chance to instill their own programs and improve their safety. Bob can eliminate the trend by getting someone to assist him to prepare for the training sessions. Alternatively, he can opt to call in an expert in the field who will dedicate more time to the training lessons.
