I come from a humble family with the background based on Christian values. I am the first child to my parents, followed by two other siblings. I am regarded as the leader of the children at home. Therefore, I have to help my younger siblings in being acquainted with life as they grow, challenges faced at school, and their response to elders. Faced with my personal obligations at home and school, it has been a constant drive for me to excel in my roles, without committing any mistakes or setting a bad example. The most critical point of my life thus far, has been the duration of high school, especially with the qualification of joining university at stake. Due to the expectations placed on me by my parents and the impact it has on my siblings, it has helped me focus on my dreams and ambitions of being a successful professional, as well as leadership. I take it as a responsibility on my part, my family, and my community in order to achieve and excel in them. It will have a positive impact to everyone at home, and by extension, the society.
My interest is in the field of medicine. I have aspirations of becoming a doctor, with specialization in cardiology. The interest grew in me from a young age when our youngest sibling had complications with the left atrium wall before his second birthday. I was affected due to the struggles he had in breathing and physiological functioning of the heart. From then on, I decided that I was to be a cardiologist and help victims of such circumstances regain their optimal health and develop their heart functionalities as other normal people. During high school, I volunteered in the annual processions of the heart run foundation. Its mandate is to help raise awareness of the cardio logical complications experienced by children under the ages of five, with contributions, promotional activities, and screening of the children. Through the four-year period that I have been involved with the organization, I have gained vital experience in terms of the delicate information surrounding the functionality of the heart, as well as response by the body to different complications. Additionally I have gained imperative first-hand experience of treatment administered and the receptive nature of the patients.
One of my greatest accomplishments was the identification of my leadership qualities by my supervisor at the voluntary work in high school. Due to the detailed process involved in the heart run, foundation processions, I was instrumental in organizing and delegating of the core duties to the other volunteers at the time. I devised an easier approach to all the volunteers’ contributions as well as appropriate time schedules for executing the mandates. The other volunteers were I agreement and it helped achieve the foundation’s goals on time. I was handed a certificate of recognition by the supervisor, as a testament of the leadership quality. It makes me proud that I can be able to offer my input as a leader, despite my young age and lack of experience. It shows that I have the capabilities of achieving more, with increased opportunities and learning aspects. It relates to the kind of person I am, as I am willing to learn, and committed to achieving the set standards by my seniors.
